POSITION SUMMARY:

 

• Facilitate the ARD process and ensure the legality of Special Education documents 
• Provide support to campus and district administrators, educators, case managers, and support personnel regarding the implementation of the student's IEP
• Support campus compliance with district, state, and federal requirements

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education/Certification:

 

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
• Valid Texas teaching certificate
• Special Education certification
• Masters's Degree or Diagnostician Certification (preferred)

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

 

• Knowledge of curriculum and instruction 
• Knowledge of rules and regulations governing Special Education, particularly the ARD process
• Excellent organization, communication, and interpersonal skills

 

Experience:

 

• At least 3 years of Special Education teaching experience

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: These statements are intended to describe the major purpose and responsibilities assigned to this job and are not intended to be an exhaustive list.

 

Management, Facilitation, and Compliance:

• Manage all aspects of the ARD process using district Special Education operating guidelines, online management system, and forms, following state and federal guidelines, verifying campus awareness of compliance and responsibilities
• Complete the ARD scheduling process ensuring timelines are followed, coordinating schedules of attendees, and completing proper notifications set forth by the state
• Prepare all paperwork for ARD meetings by collecting information and documentation, preparing recommendations, drafting pages, collaborating with teachers, communicating with parents, ensuring all required components are included and in the online management system
• Facilitate ARD meetings under the leadership of the campus administrator using an agenda, navigating the online management system, ensuring edits are made, and all legal elements are met including obtaining signatures, archiving documents, and sharing documents
• Process ARD information verify compliance, assemble the paperwork, complete PEIMS verification, upload documents and send electronic folders to staff
• Disseminate information to and from district administrators, campus staff, and parents regarding programming, services, and compliance as well as out of district requests for information
• Organize, manage and retain paperwork, classroom/campus/district schedules, district reports, case manager logs, student data, and documentation
• Assist campus staff such as teachers, paraprofessionals, case managers, and instructional specialists in understanding, their responsibility with implementing, and documenting students’ ARDed services and compliance implementing student support services, documentation of services, maintaining accurate records (such as PLAAFPs, logs, progress monitoring, and progress reporting)
• Manage and monitor compliance for the campus regarding progress monitoring data, archived documents, ensure paperwork and data for ARDs are prepared, verify components of documentation are accurate, and comply with district guidelines within the online management system, Skyward, and other data sources.
• Report non-compliance immediately to the campus principal
• Collaborate and communicate effectively with district and campus staff including executive director, coordinator, specialists, campus administrators, teachers, paras, assessment, speech, and related service staff regarding special programs
• Present the district in a positive manner emphasizing collaboration to support students in all interactions with parents, staff, and the community while maintaining confidentiality.
• Maintain an electronic calendar at all times and manage multiple schedules providing access to all relevant personnel
• Attend required district and regional level meetings such as Special Education   
• Department meetings, Compliance Facilitator meetings, Legal updates, PEIMS checks, and Region 4 meetings with fidelity
• Serve on district and/or regional committees as assigned
• Transfer and coordinate information with the Special Education PEIMS secretary, District Testing Coordinator, and other districts
• Serve as a campus contact for all assigned campus Special Education students, homebound, homeschooled, private school, Deaf Ed Co-op, and students placed outside of the district
• Maintain and verify campus student services such as campus assignments, instructional arrangement, and program information using Skyward and the online management platform, throughout the year
• Follow all DISD A-Z operating guidelines, including, but not limited to, ARD process, Case Manager Duties, IEP Access and Implementation, Accessible Instructional Materials, Manifestation Determination Review, Extended School Year Services,       Behavior Learning Program, FERPA, IEP Goals and Objectives, and Documentation of Special Education
• Manage multiple tasks and technology tools such as Skyward, Frontline, Eduphoria, Outlook, and Google to maintain timelines and manage tasks
• Ensure data clerks are familiar with their responsibilities regarding special programs compliance with requirements, including managing schedules, timelines, notifications, maintaining confidentiality and professionalism with parents and staff, maintaining the confidentiality
• Support teachers and case managers ensuring they are familiar with special education; their responsibilities and compliance with district, state, and federal requirements, including paperwork/data is maintained and completed within the required time frame, accurately and maintaining the confidentiality
• Support new teachers in both general and special education by providing training and oversight with the special education online platform, district guidelines, and expectations pertaining to special programs compliance.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the campus administrator or district special programs department

• Lifting: Frequent light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); heavy lifting (45 pounds or over) and positioning students with physical disabilities, controlling behavior through physical restraint, 
• Environment: Work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); exposure to noise; exposure to biological hazards (body fluids, bacteria, communicable diseases); regularly travel between campuses within the district
• Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress; Must be able to meet multiple demands from several people.
• Professional Dress:  Dress must be clean, neat, in a manner appropriate for his or her assignment, and in accordance with any additional standards established by his or her supervisor and approved by the Superintendent.  During work hours, visible body piercings (except earrings) will not be allowed.  Visible tattoos will be covered at all times.
