POSITION SUMMARY:

 

  • Under general supervision, repair, and install heating and air conditioning systems and equipment throughout the district
  • Maintain and provide for the safe condition and operation of all HVAC in district facilities 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education/Certification:

 

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Clear and valid Texas Driver’s License
  • EPA Certification in refrigerant recovery with “Universal” endorsement
  • Class “A” or “B” license issued by the State of Texas is preferred 

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

 

  • Personal and professional experience in working with public and school officials
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to assist in the transformation of plans into a completed product
  • Knowledge of HVAC repairs, maintenance, and installation techniques
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and written reference material
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve problems
  • Skilled in the use of hand and power tools

 

Experience: 

  • 2 years of experience in the HVAC field 

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

General:

  • Maintain all safety and code requirements of the State, local, and Board of Education guidelines
  • May be required to be on a 24-hour call-out
  • Diagnose and repair malfunctions in various types of heating and air conditioning systems
  • Maintain preventive maintenance schedules and procedures for all HVAC equipment, including changing filters, cleaning coils, and various other types of heating and cooling equipment
  • Receive and complete work orders
  • Select materials and hardware, make time and materials cost estimates and maintain accurate records on material and labor used
  • Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean
  • Maintain inventory of district-owned tools, equipment, and materials including maintaining coolant-dispensing records to meet federal requirements
  • Respond to emergency calls as needed
  • Must maintain such records as required by DISD and the EPA in reference to CFC and HCPC removal, installation and recovery
  • Install and test new HVAC equipment
  • Perform all other duties as assigned

 

 

Safety:

  • Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment to ensure equipment is in safe operating condition
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing
  • Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures
  • Correct unsafe conditions in the work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to the supervisor
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures

  • Tools/Equipment Used: Light truck or van, various tools such as; hand and power tools, and other tools as needed on work assignments. Specialty tools related to specific craft assignment
  • Motion: Frequent walking and reaching, frequent standing; kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
  • Lifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (50pounds and over) on a daily basis
  • Environment: Work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); exposure to noise; exposure to biological hazards (body fluids, bacteria, communicable diseases)
  • Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
  • Professional Dress: Dress must be clean, neat, in a manner appropriate for his or her assignment, and in accordance with any additional standards established by his or her supervisor and approved by the Superintendent.  During work hours, visible body piercings (except earrings) will not be allowed.  Visible tattoos will be covered at all times
