POSITION SUMMARY:
- To install, repair, and maintain various types of locks, door hardware, and key systems
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
- High School Diploma or GED (desired)
- Valid Texas Driver’s License with a good driving record
- Certification as Professional Locksmith
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Personal and professional experience in working with the public and school officials
- Knowledge of building security and lock systems; related procedures
- Experienced in the installation and repair of locks and door hardware
- Ability to interpret, implement and maintain a master key system
- Experienced in the operation of a key coding and duplicating machine
- Such alternative to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
- Skilled in the use of computers in a windows-based environment
Experience:
- Minimum-at least two (2) years of experience in the field of locksmith work and necessary certifications
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain all door entry safety and code requirements of the State and Local Board of Trustees policies, including glass and glazing
- Install, service, and repair various types of locks and door hardware & other security devices, including traditional mechanical as well as electronic
- Issue keys and maintain inventory records of keys issued and returned
- Report violations of the key policy to the Maintenance Director
- Set up a key code system for sites within the District and maintain accurate records
- Disassemble locks, replace worn pins, springs and other parts as required
- Perform regular preventive maintenance on tools and equipment used for service
- Maintain and repair a variety of mechanical and electrical door systems
- Available for 24-hour call-out as required
- Accurately order and account for supplies and equipment for all doors and locks & evaluate replacement if and when needed
- Cut new or duplicate keys using a key-cutting machine and biting chart
- Prepare, provide, and maintain electronic door entry devices
- Replace/adjust door closers, panic bars, and various types of door hardware
- Maintain mullions, thresholds, hinges, and glazing systems as required on all door systems
- Perform all other duties as assigned

Tools/Equipment Used: Pin sets, key machine, various hand & power tools, electric drill, key gauge, computer, and other trade-related tools. Personal safety equipment used to perform the duties of this position might include various types of gloves, goggles, dust masks, rubber-soled leather shoes, and hearing protection. Operation of a district vehicle to perform job duties is required.

Lifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (50 pounds and over) daily
Environment: The job is performed 70% indoors and 30% outdoors. The indoor duties are performed in a thermostatically controlled climate, and the duties outdoors are subject to seasonal conditions. Noise levels are low to moderate, and exposure is greatest during the operation of power tools. Exposure to vibration is low to moderate, with the exposure being greatest during the operation of power and hand tools. Lighting is supplied by overhead fluorescent or LED fixtures in all indoor areas. Outdoor lighting is natural light during daylight hours and incandescent lamps during dark or evening hours. Walking surfaces indoors are level concrete covered with VCT/LVT, ceramic tiles, or carpet. Outdoor walking surfaces are finished or unfinished concrete and “natural” with some variations in grade and composition. Exposure to fumes and chemicals is infrequent, with some exposure during the use of cleaning solvents. Appropriate safety devices are used, ventilation is provided by open-air ventilation and central air and heat systems.
Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
Professional Dress: Dress must be clean, neat, in a manner appropriate for his or her assignment, and in accordance with any additional standards established by his or her supervisor and approved by the Superintendent. During work hours, visible body piercings (except earrings) will not be allowed. Visible tattoos will be covered at all times.
