POSITION SUMMARY:  

  • Assist with providing safe transportation for special needs students to and from designated locations 

 

 

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Acceptable driving record
  • Satisfactory criminal history check

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Must successfully complete a 20-hour special needs training course

 

Language Skills:

  • Ability to read two and three-syllable words
  • Ability to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers
  • Ability to print and speak simple sentences

 

Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations

 

Other Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to work in a friendly manner with co-workers and students
  • Ability to read and understand maps
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form
  • Ability to perform duties with an awareness of all district requirements and the School Board policies

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist Driver and students in the operation of lifts for wheelchairs and assisting disabled students
  • Maintain good student conduct on the bus
  • Secure special equipment that may accompany the student
  • Be alert to any conditions presenting a danger to students
  • Communicate appropriately with students, parents, and employees

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise students during transport
